It’s normal to have a “mid-life crisis, or in my case several, as you get older. It’s what happens when you start looking at your ‘mortality’ and realize you’re probably closer to the end than the beginning now. That’s a heart stopper! Especially when you still think of yourself as 25 or 30 yrs. old. I’ll be 65 in a few months, it’s the beginning of a new year and so it was only natural that I would have an epiphany or a crisis, right?
So when I honestly asked myself how I felt, I realized I was feeling separated, anxious and empty, I was missing my connection with spirit, God, The Great Mystery, whatever name you use, they’re all the same, and I was missing my connection to it. I’d been going through the last few years on auto-pilot, not really paying attention to that part of my life, again, I’ve been sleep-walking through my life and I want to wake up now!
The big questions, everybody wants to know: What is my purpose? What feels true and right in my Soul? Well, for me, I’m a story teller/songwriter, I want to inspire hope, comfort your heart, provoke your mind, make you laugh and cry, and ultimately facilitate change.
It’s not enough to just play other people’s songs anymore, I need to share my stories.
Sharing your own songs with the world is a very personal experience, because you’re letting the world see a piece of “the real you”. It can be scary, but I’m going to do it anyway…’cuz that’s what I do!
So, I invite you to join me this year for an experiment and a new experience, as I share my songs with you at shows and use this blog to give you more insight into them.
Here goes….The world’s a mess, people are frustrated, angry, scared, disillusioned, worried and unsure…and this is not a political statement!
During the Covid quarantine, I came up here to the mountains, I was still living in Charleston, SC at that time. It was the perfect place to be! I ended up writing a whole bunch of songs that became, the album, “Dream The World Anew”. I didn’t plan to write anything, but what do you do when the whole planet is ‘shut down’? Anyway, one of those songs is ‘Love Wins’ and it describes exactly how we’re feeling now. It also offers hope and comfort.
