From the recording POLITELY TELL A LIE

“In honor of LGBTQ+ Pride Month (June) I will be re-releasing 2 songs from previous albums that are about my journey growing up Gay; "Politely Tell A Lie" from the "Freeverse"Album and "We Live & Breathe" from "Rene Russell-Self-Titled" album.
I feel that even though these songs were written at different times, the subject and difficulties are still just as important, if not more so now. Time has passed but the problem is still bigger than ever. I feel it's important to share my experience and insight to help others struggling with the same issues.”

Lyrics

I’m not the only one to ever see your face, I’m not the only one who believed it was fate
Fear is a crazy beast it kills the things it hates.
Time changes everyone, we all make mistakes

And everybody says, don’t cross the line, don’t rock the boat, be humble, be blind
Don’t tell the truth, don’t be yourself, you just keep it all inside.

And if anybody asks you now, will you politely tell that lie

People stare & people talk but they don’t know how hard, the truth can be to keep inside
Pretending it’s the lie, they still think it’s such a sin so we keep it memorized

While everybody says, don’t cross the line, don’t rock the boat, be humble, be blind
Don’t tell the truth, don’t be yourself, you just keep it all inside.

And if anybody asks you now, will you politely tell that lie

We bought the house, the dog, the yard, the cats goe in & out-
Your brother thinks he knows some truth but, he’s too afraid to ask-
And holidays are always tough cause we dance around the facts

While everybody says, don’t cross the line, don’t rock the boat, be humble, be blind
Don’t tell the truth, don’t be yourself, you just keep it all inside.

And if anybody asks you now, will you politely tell that lie

Years have passed since we began this story of our lives, we’ve lived with fear
We’ve run with hope, we have kept it all inside.
We wished for things we didn’t get
But we’ve got the things we want

Still everybody says, don’t cross the line, don’t rock the boat, be humble, be blind
Don’t tell the truth, don’t be yourself, you just keep it all inside.

And when everybody asks you now, will you politely tell that lie
Politely tell that lie & quietly deny, the truth you keep inside

Politely tell that lie & hope that you’ll get by. Politely tell that Lie
